Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) fielding coach Ryan Ten Doeschate says that T20 cricket has changed radically in the last ten years and reckons the game has become almost 'unrecognizable' in a decade.
The IPL 2024 has already seen true batting prowess from almost all teams. Kolkata Knight Riders have gone beyond 200 four times in seven matches. Sunrisers Hyderabad have broken multiple records and have gone past the 265-mark thrice this season, with their highest being a massive 287 runs against RCB recently.

We have witnessed sixes galore and a striking transformation in the mindset of the batters. The relentless aggression from batters across the teams has made the job very tough for the bowlers,
"The game has become almost unrecognizable from ten years ago. Everyone comes in and hits it and no one takes time to get in anymore. The bowler's job is to steal a couple of dot balls. The modern cricketers, someone like Phil Salt, gets very annoyed if he faces two dot balls. You don't often see that," Ten Doeschate said at the Knight Golf event on Monday (April 22).
Ten Doeschate also believes the introduction of the Impact Player rule has a hand in it. The assurance of having an extra batter while chasing allows the teams to go berserk on the opposition without the fear of losing wickets. That is a clear reason why we have seen so many big runs being scored in this tournament.
"I think the Impact Rule has made a massive impact as you have one extra batter. The psychology of knowing that you have got eight or nine players to whack means you never stop. The bowling side will have to be attacking and the batting side has to be fearless and brave in every ball of the 120 balls," the KKR coach added.
KKR registered a thrilling 1-run victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their last IPL 2024 match. They are currently placed 2nd in the table with 10 points in seven matches.
