IPL 2024: 'They can Talk about Me..' - Virat Kohli discards Strike Rate Criticism

Virat Kohli has played down the criticism of the strike rate associated with his name in the IPL 2024.

Virat Kohli is undoubtedly a maverick of the game. The Indian stalwart has scored a plethora of runs over the years but experts have pointed out one recent fault in his game.

Kohli, in the ongoing IPL season, has scored a lot of runs but his strike against spin in middle overs was a subject of criticism. In a recent match, Kohli's strike rate dropped to 76 in the middle overs. But Kohli showed his magic against Gujarat Titans on Sunday.

The Indian batter scored an unbeaten 70 off just 44 balls and stitched a partnership of 166 runs with Will Jacks as RCB chased down 200 runs against GT in 16 overs. Kohli played a fantastic knock amid Jacks' blitzkrieg, who scored 100 runs off just 41 balls.

After the victory, Kohli heaped praises on Will Jacks and hailed his teammate for finishing the match so quickly.

"Initially when he came to bat, he was annoyed that he wasn't able to strike the ball as he wanted to. The only talk was for him to stay calm, we know how explosive he can be when he gets going. I was just happy to stay around and watch him go. I thought we would win in 19 overs, but to do it in 16 was absolutely brilliant," Kohli said after the match.

Kohli scored 61 runs off his 70 against the spin, also at a rapid strike rate of 179. The RCB stalwart addressed the criticism of his spin strike rate and quite clearly looked unfazed by the recent eyebrows.

"There's a reason why you do it for 15 years, for me, it's only about doing the work, people can talk anything they want to, they can talk about me not being able to push on, not playing spin well, but you yourself know the game better," Kohli added.

RCB secured consecutive victories after a comprehensive win over Gujarat Titans. They remain at the bottom of the table but keep their playoff hopes alive.
