IPL 2024: Three key signings made by Rajasthan Royals at the auction
Rajasthan Royals (RR) failed to qualify for the playoffs last season. Under the captaincy of Sanju Samson, the Royals performed well in patches but at the same time, they had chinks in their armour, which put them on the back foot, more often than not.
They narrowly missed out on making the cut through the playoffs by finishing fifth on the table (7 wins and 7 defeats), just two points behind the fourth-placed Mumbai Indians in the league stage.

RR qualified for the playoffs in IPL 2022 by finishing second on the table and also made it to the finals of the competition. Nevertheless, they lacked the ammunition to defeat Gujarat Titans in the final.
RR won their first IPL title by defeating CSK in the inaugural edition and it remains to be seen how they will go about their work in IPL 2024. They purchased as many as five players at the IPL 2024 auction and let's take a look at the three key signings made by them.
Rovman Powell
The inaugural IPL champions purchased the West Indies' hard-hitting batsman, Rovman Powell for INR 7.4 crore at the IPL 2024 auction. The Caribbean is certain to bring a lot of dimension to RR's batting unit. Notably, he has been a standout player in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) where he made pivotal contributions to his teams.
His significant performances in the CPL presented him a window of opportunities in T20 leagues such as the IPL, BPL and others. The 30-year-old has been a part of IPL since 2022 wherein he played 17 games but hasn't been able to unleash his full potential, scoring 257 runs including a fifty. However, the marquee signing will be looking forward to bringing the best out of himself this time around.
Shubham Dubey
Rajasthan Royals recruited Vidarbha's middle-order batsman for INR 5.8 crore at the IPL 2024 auction. The uncapped Indian player certainly has pressure on himself because of the price tag but will be vying to make his presence count for the team. He has been in pretty good form of late, scoring 221 runs in 7 games at a strike rate of around 190 in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Shubham Dubey hogged the limelight after he hammered 58 off only 20 deliveries as an Impact player in the team's run-chase of 213 against Bengal cricket team. He drew plaudits for his batting masterclass, in what was also Vidarbha's highest-ever successful run-chase. His batting exploits prompted Rajasthan Royals to recruit him.
Nandre Burger
Nandre Burger just started to get the hang of things in international cricket when he made his debut last year. Since then, he impressed the cricket fraternity by expressing his skills in swinging the ball, thus making him a potent bowling weapon. While the 28-year-old is not an established name, he surely has the tools and ingredients to become successful in near future.
Rajasthan Royals will be looking forward to unlocking the hidden potential inside the South African international. The left-arm pacer can pose a threat to the batters in seam-friendly conditions and is certainly one of the pacers to watch out for in the upcoming season. RR did the right thing by roping him in for his base price of INR 50 lakh at the auction.
