Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been hit with a major blow weeks ahead of IPL 2024 New Zealand opener Devon Conway has been ruled out for half a season.
Conway, who picked up the injury during the recent T20I series against Australia, will this week undergo surgery on the left thumb and will need at least eight weeks to recover, ruling him out of action until May.

The IPL 2024 starts from March 22, which means the Kiwi batter will be out at least till the start of May or even more, which is a huge blow for Chennai Super Kings.
Conway has been a prolific player for the Yellow Army during his stay at the franchise. The southpaw was quite brilliant last year for them, scoring 672 runs in 16 matches as CSK lifted the trophy for the record fifth time. Hence the unavailability of Conway from the start is not welcoming at all.
Although it is unclear whether CSK will opt for a replacement of the Kiwi batter, here are three players whom they can sign ahead of the IPL 2024-
Josh Inglis can be a potential replacement for Devon Conway. The Australian wicketkeeper-batter is known for his hard-hitting up top and also is a decent player of spin. Inglis' Rs 2 crore asking price is affordable and CSK can go for him. Inglis recent scored a fantastic century against India in a T20I series last year, further depicting the quality he possesses.
Philip Salt was a highly anticipated name during the auction but the English player remained unsold. The explosive batter can also be a replacement for Conway in the CSK setup. Salt has previously played for Delhi Capitals and played pretty decently. Hence the 27-year-old can be a decent option for MS Dhoni's team.
South Africa batter Reeza Hendricks can also be a replacement option for CSK. The opener has been playing well for the Proteas in the T20 format and is an accomplished hitter of the ball. He also plays for CSK's sister team Joburg Super Kings in the SA20 and thus can be an option for them to replace the Kiwi batter.
The much-anticipated move for Sarfaraz Khan is an option. CSK have been linked with Sarfaraz since the batter's India debut. The injury to Conway opens up a slot for Sarfaraz, who has an asking price of a mere Rs. 20 lakh.
But there can be issues in replacing Sarfaraz with Conway as they have already completed their quota of 17 Indian players. Hence it is unlikely for the Indian batter to replace Devon Conway this season.
