IPL 2024: Three Players CSK should have signed instead of Richard Gleeson

Chennai Super Kings have roped in Richard Gleeson in the IPL 2024 squad as a replacement for Devon Conway.

Devon Conway, the New Zealand batter, got injured before the tournament. Although CSK didn't announce a replacement as they were hopeful of Conway's return, the recent developments suggest the Kiwi star won't be able to play this season at all.

CSK then announced England bowler Richard Gleeson as a replacement. The 36-year-old has never played IPL and would be hoping to play a part in the Super Kings side this season. The English bowler has played 6 T20Is for his country, picking up 9 wickets in his career.

He has also played for the likes of Melbourne Renegades in BBL, Durban Super Giants in the SA20 and many other franchise teams. But with the likes of Mustafizur Rahman and Matheesha Pathirana already in the squad, the selection of Gleeson comes as a surprise.

Here are Three players whom CSK could have signed instead of Gleeson-

Akeal Hosein

The West Indies all-rounder is known for his left-arm spin and explosive batting down the order. Hosein, with prior IPL experience, could have been a decent signing as a backup for Chennai Super Kings.

Tabraiz Shamsi

Tabraiz Shamsi is a top-notch South African bowler and he could have been an option for CSK as well. The former no. 1 T20 bowler has a knack for picking wickets and his left-arm wrist spin would have brought in a different dimension in the CSK bowling attack.

Sarfaraz Khan

Sarfaraz Khan was tipped to join CSK as a replacement this year. The Indian batter has performed superbly in the last few months and also showcased his talent for the national team in the Test series against England. CSK, having so many fast bowlers in the team, could have invested in Sarfaraz as he could provide added depth to their batting.
