IPL 2024 will start from March 22, league chairman Arun Dhumal revealed on Tuesday. All the IPL 2024 matches will be held in India despite Lok Sabha elections 2024 in April and May.
The IPL 2024 schedule is yet to be released, and explaining the reason Arun Dhumal said that the BCCI was waiting for the Election Commission to reveal the dates for Lok Sabha elections.

The dates of the general elections are expected to be announced early in March. Dhumal revealed that the IPL 2024 schedule for the first 15 days will be announced initially.
"We are looking at a March 22 start for the tournament. We are working closely with the government agencies and we will first release the initial schedule. The entire tournament will be held in India," Dhumal told PTI on Tuesday.
The BCCI aims to host the matches in regions not holding the phase-wise Lok Sabha election in India. For example, if there is an election in Delhi, the Arun Jaitley Stadium will not host matches for the particular period.
Only in 2009, the IPL, in its entirety, was held overseas (South Africa) while the 2014 edition was partially held in the UAE due to the general elections. However, in 2019, the tournament was held in India despite the elections.
Considering the T20 World Cup 2024 kicks off in the USA and the West Indies from June 1, the final is likely to be held on May 26. India will play their first match of the T20 World Cup 2024 against Ireland in New York on June 5.
As per the latest news, defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will take on runners-up Gujarat Titans (GT) in the opening match of the IPL 2024 on March 22.
