IPL 2024 to start from March 22 in India despite Lok Sabha elections in country

IPL 2024 is set to be held from March 2024 in India despite the multi-phased Lok Sabha elections in the country during the period. India would witness an amazing blend of sports and politics during the period from March to May.

As per Jagran News, BCCI secretary Jay Shah and Home Minister Amit Shah are working closely to ensure that the IPL 2024 is held successfully in India. The BCCI has already initiated talks with concerned ministries to pave the way for a smooth conduct of the cash-rich league.

Logistical challenges would be massive as the Lok Sabha elections in the largest democracy in the world will be held in a phased manner. The allocation of security forces would also be key during the course of the two mega events in India.

In case, there is an election in a particular region, matches would be avoided there and taken to venues where the elections are already over, or are scheduled to be held in later phases. The spirit of flexibility will become the key.

IPL 2024 start date

During the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, the IPL was shifted to South Africa. In 2014, 20 matches were played in the UAE and the remaining ones back in India. However, general elections and IPL matches were held simultaneously in 2019.

Taking the IPL to a different country in itself is a different level of logistical challenge. BCCI's organisational skills would be tested, but they are expected to pass with flying colours.

Postponing and preponing the IPL 2024 was also not an option. India lock horns with England in a 5-match Test series starting January 25. The final Test will be played from March 7 to March 11. The T20 World Cup 2024 starts from June 1. The traditional April-May window was the only one available in front of the BCCI.
