IPL 2024: Five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) became the first team to be officially kicked out of playoffs race after Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 10 wickets at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Wednesday.
Mumbai, who have lost eight of their 12 matches, can reach to a maximum of 12 points even if they win their last two league stage fixtures. Top-placed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) already have 16 points with three matches each remaining.

SRH are now placed third with 14 points in 12 matches, while Chennai Super Kings (11 matches), Delhi Capitals (12 matches), and LSG (12 matches) have 12 points each.
Mumbai defeated SRH by seven wickets in their last match. However, the Pat Cummins led side hammered LSG by 10 wickets and ended Mumbai's slim chances to finish in the top four.
In a rather forgettable season, Mumbai lost their first match against Rajasthan before winning the next two games. They lost to CSK in their fourth game before beating Punjab Kings. But their campaign got completely derailed after four consecutive losses after that.
A lot of off-field controversies surrounded even before MI played the first match of the season. Rohit Sharma, who won five titles for Mumbai, was removed from captaincy, and replaced by Hardik Pandya. Mumbai Indians management faced the wrath of fans, and Hardik was also subject to harsh booing at the stadiums. Hardik was traded to Mumbai from Gujarat Titans (GT) ahead of the IPL 2024 auction.
