RCB IPL 2024: Three Players Royal Challengers Bengaluru Must Drop for the Season

Royal Challengers Bengaluru are in dire straits after losing their fifth consecutive IPL 2024 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday (April 15).

It was yet another dismal bowling performance from them at home as SRH batters dismantled the RCB bowlers all across the park to register the highest score ever in the IPL.

RCB IPL 2024

Heinrich Klaasen and Travis Head starred for the Hyderabad side as they posted 287 runs in their 20 overs. Interestingly, both were former RCB players whom the Bengaluru management released in the past. RCB's chase was not bad either as they posted 262 runs, with Dinesh Karthik being the top-scorer with a fantastic 83 off just 35 balls, while Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis also scored half-centuries.

With seven matches to go, the Bengaluru outfit will have to win seven matches to have any chance of playoff qualification. Anything less than that jeopardizes their chances and with the current downward curve that they are in, it is going to be an uphill task. Among the current players, many of the big names are not performing, while the uncapped and young Indian players have shown only glimpses of promise.

But Andy Flower and co. will be to be bold in their selection and will have to start taking tough steps. Here are Three Players who must be dropped for the next matches-

IPL 2024: Three Players RCB must Drop from Lineup

Rajat Patidar: The expectations were very high for Rajat Patidar after an excellent IPL 2022 season. But the Indian batter has completely failed to live up to the billing and has only managed 109 runs in six innings with a paltry average of 18. He has failed in almost all the important times and has never been able to showcase his talent so far. So Rajat Patidar must get the axe for the next match.

Saurav Chauhan: RCB's selection of Saurav Chauhan did raise some eyebrows, and so far, the 23-year-old batter from Gujarat has failed to make a mark. He has only managed 18 runs in three innings with an average of six and hasn't looked comfortable at all. The youngster may get a chance later in the season, but for now, he needs to be dropped.

Reece Topley: Reece Topley is another bowler who deserves to get benched. RCB do have pacers like Alzarri Joseph, Tom Curran in their ranks, but they're still using Topley, which is quite baffling. The Englishman had one decent match, but after that, he has been massacred. The left-arm pacer hasn't looked threatening at all. Topley probably deserves to be benched, at least for the next few matches.
