IPL 2024: Virat Kohli makes Hilarious Strike Rate joke after smashing knock against PBKS - A jibe at Sunil Gavaskar?

By MyKhel Staff

Virat Kohli was at his devastating best against Punjab Kings in a crucial IPL 2024 match in Dharamshala on Thursday (May 9).

The RCB batter scored 92 runs off just 47 balls and paved the path for a remarkable victory for his team. With a fourth consecutive win, the Bengaluru outfit still has an outside chance of making it to the playoffs.

Kohli opened the innings and got a life in the very first over when Ashutosh Sharma put him down. But from then on, Kohli kicked on and played yet another sublime knock. The player was adjudged Man of the Match and spoke at the post-match presentation, dissenting his game and approach.

Virat Kohli makes Strike Rate Comment - A jibe at Sunil Gavaskar?

Recently, a few commentators including former India player Sunil Gavaskar criticized Kohli for his strike rate. The RCB batter had a struggle in the middle overs in a match and Gavaskar was blunt in his view of Kohli's approach against spin.

But after the blitzkrieg in Dharamshala, Kohli made a cheeky comment, which the fans are saying was a subtle jibe at the critics.

"It was important to keep up my strike-rate through the innings so I wanted to take on the momentum," Virat Kohli said with a smile.

The RCB star played a sublime knock of 70 against Gujarat Titans recently and then lashed out at his critics. He took a swipe at the commentators who were scrutinizing the performances while 'sitting in a box'.

The player also admitted that he continuously tries to update himself and improve his game according to situations and demands.

"Still aiming to improve aspects of the game that you want to get batter at. It's an evolving process. I brought out the slogsweep against the spinners. I didn't practice it, I know I have hit it the past. Always looking to expose that side of the field against spin. I know I need to take risks, it needs a bit of conviction," the RCB player added.

The 35-year-old also became the first played to get past 600 runs in the IPL 2024. With 634 runs, Kohli sits atop of the Orange Cap list and far ahead of his immediate rival Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has managed 541 runs so far.
