IPL 2024 got underway in Chennai on Friday (March 22) with MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli as star attractions during the Chennai Super Kings vs Royal Challengers Bangalore match. However, it was Virender Sehwag trended on Twitter for his Haryanvi commentary on JioCinema.
Virender Sehwag, however, did quote trouble as the opener was accused of making homophobic remarks during the pre-match show, aimed at social media figure Orry, who also joined the JioCinema panel as a commentator for IPL 2024.

MyKhel, however, couldn't confirm the authenticity of the remarks made on air by Virender Sehwag as there are no videos available to confirm the incident and is based on the accounts of the fans.
The 45-year-old retired opener, who is often seen doing Hindi commentary at the IPL and other international events, was roped in to do Haryanvi commentary for the IPL 2024. He was seen sharing the commentary box with Bollywood rapper Badshah and RJ Kisna. Some of the fans also enjoyed his commentary and praised it on Twitter.
JioCinema is preparing for a stunning IPL 2024 opening ceremony, promising a blend of entertainment and cricket despite the controversy. With a lineup that includes well-known figures like comedian Munawar Faruqui, cricket giants Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar, musician Badshah, and others, the platform hopes to fascinate viewers. But JioCinema's decision to rope in Orry didn't sit well with many of the fans.
The Viacom 18-backed company announced on X, formerly Twitter, that they have brought several social media influencers on board, including Orry to "double the fun and entertainment" during this year's IPL.
Many in the audience were disappointed and frustrated, even though some supporters saw the decision as a way to spice up the cricketing feast. The 'cringe-worthy' addition to the commentary team has left fans unhappy, as social media platforms were inundated with criticism.
Star Sports, who have the rights for the Television coverage, brought back Navjot Singh Sidhu among their star list of commentators. The IPL 2024 will continue till May 26 with 10 franchises competing for the title, including defending champions Chennai Super Kings.
