Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) bounced back from a seven-match losing streak with six wins on the trot to seal the playoff spot in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
From being written off from finishing in the top four even before the final league stage match, Faf Du Plessis' RCB proved doubters wrong by defeating defending champions Chennai Super Kings in a virtual knockout clash in Bengaluru on Saturday (May 18).

The 27-run victory over CSK at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium saw RCB extend their winning streak past five. This is not the first time RCB has achieved such a streak.
The current run is their second-longest winning streak. They can match their best-ever streak with a win over Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2024 Eliminator on Wednesday (May 22) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The Bengaluru-based side had won seven in succession in the 2011 edition. They had also won five in a row in the 2009 and 2016 editions. They bettered that record this year with the win over CSK last week. But can they match, what those three teams achieved or even better that?
IPL 2009: RCB first went on a five-match winning streak in 2009 after winning just 4 in the first 10 matches. They won four league stage matches to reach the knockouts and extended that streak to 5 with a victory CSK in the semifinal to seal a final berth.
However, Anil Kumble-led side failed to win the title that year following a 6-run loss to now defunct Deccan Chargers in the title clash at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
IPL 2011: Two years later, RCB managed to better their win streak from the 2009 edition and once again reached the final. They went from one win in five to go on the streak in the league stage, finishing first in the points table.
Once again, RCB failed in the important match and missed out on the title after losing by 58 runs to their Southern rivals CSK in the title clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
IPL 2016: After winning 4 matches in the first 10 matches, the Bengaluru outfit went on a four-match winning streak in the league stage to seal a playoff berth, and then extended the run to five matches before the streak was halted by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final.
That was the third time, Royal Challengers reached an IPL final after winning 5 or more matches in a row, but unfortunately could not go all the way to lift the title in all three seasons. They will hope to better that in 2024, but it won't be easy to carry forward the winning run.
The Royal Challengers can match the record for most wins in a row in an IPL season if they manage to beat RR in the Eliminator, Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Qualifier 2 and the current streak record holders Kolkata Knight Riders in the title clash.
KKR holds the longest winning streak in IPL history with nine wins in a row in 2014, including the final, against Punjab Kings in Bengaluru. The Knights infact extended that run to 10 with a win in the first match of the following season in 2015.
