IPL 2024: In a funny anecdote shared by Shane Watson, he has revealed how former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni pulled his leg while talking about winning the Fair Play Award when he first joined the five-time champions in 2018.
In a video shared by JioCinema, the former Australia all-rounder is seen revealing how Dhoni talked about CSK's low chances of winning the Fair Play Award after his inclusion in the squad. Watson went on to explain how Dhoni himself ended up fuming on umpires and walked in the middle of the ground to contest their call.

"I remember the first time that I played at CSK, the first things MS Dhoni said to the whole group was - Whatever we do we want to win the Fair Play Award but now that we have got you Watson, the chances of us winning that is significantly reduced. And then the great man ended up walking onto the field in one game and I was like 'Well! Maybe not'," Shane Watson said in a video posted by JioCinema.
The incident Shane Watson was talking about was from IPL 2019 when Chennai Super Kings locked horns with Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
With three runs required off the last three balls, Ben Stokes bowled a high full-toss to Mitchell Santner who placed the ball towards long-on and ran a double. The ball was declared a waist-high no-all by umpire Ulhas Gandhe as soon as Stokes completed the delivery. However, the decision was overruled by leg umpire Bruce Oxenford.
Ravindra Jadeja got into an argument with the umpires first before MS Dhoni surprised everyone by walking in the middle and making his disappointment evident to thousands in the ground, and millions watching the live action on TV and their electronic gadgets.
Ben Stokes and Ajinkya Rahane - who was then part of Rajasthan Royals - had to step in to cool down a livid MS Dhoni. Steve Smith, also part of the Rajasthan team, joined the huddle consisting of the two umpires, CSK batters, Stokes and Rahane.
With six needed off the final two deliveries, Santner ran another double on the fifth ball of the 20th over. Stokes then bowled a wide, before Santner slammed a six on the final ball of the match to hand Chennai a thrilling win.
