Shikhar Dhawan's participation in the upcoming IPL 2024 matches is in jeopardy as the Punjab Kings captain suffered an injury.
Dhawan didn't play in Saturday's match against Rajasthan Royals and their stand-in captain Sam Curran said the player had a niggle. It was later revealed that Dhawan injured his right shoulder while taking a catch against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

And after the match against Rajasthan, PBKS batting coach Sanjay Bangar has confirmed that the injury is a bit more than a niggle and Dhawan is likely to be sidelined for a week at least.
"He's having a shoulder injury, so he is likely to be out for at least a couple of days, I would say. Having an experienced opener, somebody like Shikhar, who has experience of playing on such wickets, becomes extremely crucial," Bangar said.
Having just said a couple of days, Bangar then corrected himself and confirmed that the veteran batter could be out as long as ten days.
"We have to wait and see how he responds to the treatment. At the moment, it seems that he could be out of action for at least seven to ten days," he added.
It is undoubtedly a massive blow to Punjab Kings, who are currently sitting 8th in the table with 4 points in six matches. The 38-year-old player has been their main pillar in batting this season. Hence the unavailability of Dhawan will come as a blank that is very hard to fill.
Luckily for Punjab Kings, they have only two matches in the next ten days. They play Mumbai Indians next on Apri 18, followed by Gujarat Titans on April 21. After that, there is another four-day gap before their clash against the Kolkata Knight Riders on April 26.
Hence, if Dhawan gets fit within five or six days, the PBKS captain may feature against Gujarat Titans. It is all about easing him in though as the Kings management won't rush something, which may aggravate his current injury.
