IPL 2024: Which Team Will Benefit in Playoff Race if SRH vs LSG Match is Washed Out Due To Rain?

With summer showers arriving in parts of India, there is likelihood of some of the IPL 2024 matches, including tonight's Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Lucknow Super Giants at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad to be affected.

Parts of Hyderabad have been hit by thundrestorms since the start of the week, and the weather forecast for Wednesday (May 8) also doesn't seem promising as there could be a first rain-affected match in store for this season.

Fans will hope for at least five overs of action from both sides to get an outcome rather than seeing a complete wash out as there is no reserve day for league stage matches in the IPL.

The two teams, however, could be content with a point shared, which will see them rise up into the top four. But both teams will have one match fewer to earn a playoff spot compare to the rest in the race like Chennai Super Kings. So, let's see which team benefits from a complete wash out.

Which teams will benefit in IPL 2024 playoff race if SRH vs LSG is washed out?

Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals currently occupy the top two spots on the IPL 2024 points table, and are the best placed teams to qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs, while the remaining two spots will be contested for by at least four teams.

Chennai Super Kings, currently placed in third, will be battling for the spot with SRH, LSG and Delhi Capitals with Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings in with an outside chance of finishing in the top four.

If tonight's match is completely washed out, both SRH and LSG will topple CSK to finish inside the top four for now with 13 points each. CSK, however, can soon get back in the playoff conversation with a win, displacing LSG.

So, the only team benefitting from a wash out could be SRH, who have a little better Net Run Rate (NRR) compared to LSG and DC. The wash out could also make it impossible for RCB and PBKS to make the playoffs.

SRH, however, would want at least a 5-over per side match as they will be aiming for the top two spots rather than just finishing in the top four. LSG also will hope there is chance of a full contest to decide the winner in Hyderabad tonight.

16 points may be the magic number to take one of the spots in the IPL 2024 playoffs. So, SRH and LSG would not like to be the teams ending up with 15 points at the end of the league stage due to a washed out match.
