Delhi Capitals have roped in Afghanistan all-rounder Gulbadin Naib into their squad for the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
Naib steps in to fill the void left by Mitchell Marsh, who suffered a hamstring injury, sidelining him for the remainder of IPL 2024. This marks Naib's first time participating in the IPL, joining the Capitals at his reserve price of INR 50 lakh after Marsh's departure.

Gulbadin Naib is an Afghanistan all-rounder known for his aggressive batting and medium pace bowling. The 32-year-old has played 82 ODIs and 64 T20Is for his country.
Naib has scored 1231 ODI runs at an average of 19.85 and has five fifties to his name. He has 73 ODI wickets as well.
In T20I cricket, Naib has scored 802 runs at a strike rate of 127.3 and has three half-centuries. With the ball, the Afghan has picked up 26 wickets in the format.
Mitchell Marsh, before his injury, appeared in four matches for the Delhi Capitals. His exit was confirmed after he traveled to Perth on April 12 to seek advice from Cricket Australia's medical team. By April 22, Ricky Ponting, the head coach of Delhi Capitals, announced in Delhi that Marsh would not make a return to India for the rest of the IPL season.
During his stint this season, Marsh contributed 61 runs across three innings with a top score of 23 and took one wicket over eight overs, maintaining an economy rate of 12.87. This is the second consecutive year that Marsh has had to withdraw mid-season from the Delhi Capitals roster. Despite being a significant investment at INR 6.5 crore, Marsh only managed nine appearances for the team in the 2023 season.
Currently positioned sixth in the points table, Delhi Capitals have secured four victories from nine matches. Their campaign continues with upcoming fixtures against prominent teams.
