IPL 2024: Sameer Rizvi, who was bought for Rs 8.40 crore in the IPL 2024 auction by Chennai Super Kings (CSK), started his IPL career with a six off Gujarat Titans (GT) leg-spinner Rashid Khan at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday, March 26.

Coming to bat after Shivam Dube's dismissal on the second ball of the 19th over, Sameer Rizvi slog swept the first delivery of his IPL career for a six over backward square leg boundary. He scored 14 off six balls to help CSK finish at 206/6 in 20 overs.

Sameer Rizvi made his IPL and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) debut in the season opener against star-studded Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Chepauk on Friday, March 22.

Rizvi went past uncapped Shubham Dubey who was picked by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 5.80 crore. Rizvi was touted to create a major buzz at the auction being held at the Coca Cola Arena in Dubai on Tuesday, December 19.

The supremely talented batter hit as many as 20 sixes for Kanpur Superstars in the UP T20 League 2023. The right-hander batter also smashed two cracking hundreds and finished with 455 runs in nine innings in the tournament. The same forced three franchises including Punjab Kings (PBKS) call him for the trials.

However, he still opted to play for UP's Under-23 squad in a one-day series. The 20-year-old Meerut-born cricketer blasted 91 off 65 deliveries against Rajasthan before hitting a match-winning 84 from 50 balls in the final. Rizvi who usually bat at number four for Uttar Pradesh (UP) finished the Men’s U-23 state A trophy champion as the leading run-scorer.

Gujarat Titans (GT) and Delhi Capitals (DC) also made bids to have the talented youngster who has also been part of India B Under-19s in the past. He made his T20 Uttar Pradesh debut in October 2022 and was handed his debut cap by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and India star Rinku Singh. He has played a total of 11 T20 matches and scored 295 runs at an average of 49.16 and a strike rate of 134.70. Sameer Rizvi has also featured in seven first-class matches and 11 List A matches.
