Royal Challengers Bengaluru played their 250th IPL match on Thursday (April 25, 2024) against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
The Bengaluru side, who are currently at the bottom of the table, secured a welcome victory over SRH and thus kept their hopes for the playoffs just hanging but alive.

The good thing about RCB is that they are still in the hunt and if a number of results go their way, we may see Virat Kohli and Co in the knockout stages. But it was a milestone day for Bengaluru who played the 250th IPL match in history. RCB are associated with IPL since the inception of this tournament and they have played three finals in their history, although they are yet to win an IPL title.
They became only the second team to play 250 IPL matches. Earlier this season, Mumbai Indians achieved the 250-mark in IPL and the five-time IPL champions have played the most number of matches in the tournament with 255.
Chennai Super Kings is the team with the most playoff appearances in the history of IPL. They have won the title five times and are known for their consistency in the competition with 12 playoff qualifications and 10 final appearances. But surprisingly, CSK has only played 233 IPL matches till date (April 26, 2024).
Although Chennai Super Kings have a magnificent record in IPL, they are yet to play their 250th IPL match because the franchise was banned for two seasons.
Due to the IPL 2013 spot-fixing allegations and the alleged involvement of their owner in it, CSK were banned for two years from the competition. Hence Chennai Super Kings didn't play the IPL 2016 and 2017 along with Rajasthan Royals and were replaced with two teams Gujarat Lions and Rising Pune Supergiants respectively.
That's the reason why CSK's total match tally is surprisingly lower compared to other teams and they are yet to play their 250th IPL match.
