IPL 2024: Why KKR Pacer Harshit Rana is Suspended For One Match?

Kolkata Knight Riders pacer Harshit Rana has been hit with one match suspension and a fine of 100 percent of his match fee following match 47 of IPL 2024 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Monday (April 29).

Rana has been known to give some aggressive send off to batters and that has landed him in trouble during the ongoing Indian Premier League season. The same could be the reason for his heavy punishment.

Harshit Rana

"Mr Harshit Rana, Bowler, Kolkata Knight Riders has been fined 100 per cent of his match fees and suspended for one match for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 47 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Delhi Capitals at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on April 29, 2024," IPL statement read.

"Rana committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 of the IPL's Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee's sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding."

Although the reason for his suspension is not mentioned in the statement, it is believed that his reaction to the dismissal of Delhi Capitals batter Abhishek Porel has led to the latest reprimand.

In the seventh over of the DC innings, Rana castled Porel, who was looking to scoop the KKR pacer towards fine leg, but failed to make any connection and saw the stumps being dislodged. Rana reacted with his usual aggressive send off, costing him big time.

Why Harshit Rana is suspended for one match in IPL 2024?

Rana is set to miss KKR's next match against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday (May 3). He faces suspension and the 100 percent match fee fine because this is his second same offence in the ongoing season.

Earlier, the Delhi pacer was fined 60 percent of his match fee for his wild send off to Sunrisers Hyderabad's Mayank Agarwal after dismissing the batter on the back of a couple of boundaries.

The 22-year-old, who has been part of the KKR franchise since the 2022 season, has been one of the top wicket-takers for the team this year, taking 11 wickets in 8 matches. So, he will be a big miss when KKR face MI away from home.
