Mumbai Indians' disastrous IPL 2024 will run its full course today as they take on Lucknow Super Giants.
It has been a gloomy season for the Paltans, who have been ravaged on and off the field. The captaincy saga, an alleged disharmony in the squad, a speculated departure for their talisman Rohit Sharma, and fan rage on captain Hardik Pandya - all have culminated to serve a huge bowl of failure for them.

As the final dance takes place at the Wankhede today, the million-dollar question is being raised, Is it the Final match for Rohit Sharma as a Paltan?
Well, if we take a look at how things have panned out in the last couple of months or so, we can perceive things with a lot of clarity.
Rohit Sharma's departure as Mumbai Indians captain was a bold move, perhaps a hugely unfair one for Rohit himself, who led them to five IPL titles. The MI fans took it as a blasphemy and bemoaned their feelings vividly, booing Hardik Pandya and singing Rohit Sharma's royal chant in all the Mumbai matches.
Although both Rohit and Hardik have kept themselves in lighter terms in front of the TV, there were speculation of inner apathy from the duo towards each other. Rohit Sharma was reportedly frustrated and was not happy with the way the institution was being run by the new headmaster.
Till then, it was just a rumour. But an unfiltered chat of Rohit with KKR assistant coach Abhishek Nayar has broken the shackles.
Rohit could be heard expressing his displeasure of the everchanging Mumbai Indians, something which he couldn't condone. The player was heard speaking of a Temple which he made, and was also heard that this may be his last. Although the context of the conversation of the conversation lacks clarity, but notions are that it was about Mumbai Indians.
The franchise hasn't spoken on the matter, neither have Rohit or Hardik. But it's easy to perceive that the current MI team is clearly disjointed. Rohit, being the captain of the Indian team, would have expected better treatment from Mumbai Indians. He built the entire team, instilled their winning mentality, and led them superbly over the last decade. But after all that, a sudden expulsion from the helm can have untenable consequences.
From that point of view, it looks likely that the love story of Rohit Sharma and Mumbai Indians has run its course. And the Wankhede on Friday may be the swansong for Rohit as a Paltan.
