Yashasvi Jaiswal's struggles at Rajasthan Royals and form of other opening options in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 has put the young left-hander's spot in Team India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad in danger.
Jaiswal, who was in great touch coming into the IPL 2024 with two double centuries in the Test series against England, has amassed a total of just 63 runs in 5 innings with the best score of 24 at a strike rate of 136.95.

The southpaw earned his senior call up on the back of an excellent IPL 2023, where he had scored a total of 625 runs including a century and 5 fifties in 14 innings at a strike rate of 163.61.
Although he failed on his T20I debut against West Indies, Jaiswal showcased his ability in the very second innings with an unbeaten 84. In the Asian Games, he smashed his only century in T20Is, while he registered three more fifties in the next 9 T20I appearances.
However, the 22-year-old has made scores of just 24, 5, 0, 12 and 24 in the five innings so far, putting doubts over his spot in Team India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad, which is set to be led by Rohit Sharma.
Apart from his own struggles, the other potential openers for India at the T20 World Cup 2024 has shown better form with the bat, including the leading run-scorer Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill. So, will Jaiswal still find a berth in the T20 World Cup squad?
Coming into IPL 2024, Jaiswal was one of the prime candidates to get on the plane to USA and the Caribbean in June. But since the start of the lucrative league, he may have slipped down the pecking order with Gill and Kohli likely to partner Rohit as the openers.
India is likely to announce the squad in the final week of April or on May 1, ICC's cut off date for the perliminary squads to be revealed. So, Jaiswal can still find a spot in the squad by getting some runs under his belt with at least three games left until the squad announcement deadline.
If Kohli and Rohit are the first choice options, then Jaiswal could be competing with Gill and KL Rahul for the third opener's spot in the squad. He could also be part of the travelling reserves, but even for that, Jaiswal will need to get back to form.
