Kolkata Knight Riders has confirmed the re-appointment of Abhishek Nayar in IPL 2025, after the India assistant coach was relieved off his duties by BCCI.
Abhishek Nayar has rejoined the KKR coaching staff for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season, just days after his removal from the Indian national team's support structure.

Nayar, who had joined the Indian team last year as part of the coaching unit, was released from his duties following the team's poor performance during the recent Test series against Australia. His stint with the national side ended amid reports of dissatisfaction among senior players, which eventually led to the decision not to continue with him.
Despite his sudden departure from the BCCI setup, KKR wasted no time in bringing Nayar back to their camp. The former India cricketer has had a long-standing association with the franchise and played a key role in their IPL 2024 title win. He has been an influential figure behind the scenes at KKR, particularly in mentoring young Indian players and overseeing their development through the KKR Academy.
KKR announced the news on Saturday via a social media post. 'Welcome Back Home, Abhishek Nayar', the post wrote.
Abhishek Nayar has been reinstated as a part of the coaching staff of the Kolkata Knight Riders. He is expected to be at the Eden Gardens on Saturday (April 19) and will be in the dugout for the match against Gujarat Titans on Monday (April 21). MyKhel spoke with KKR, who are tight-lipped about the designation of Nayar at the KKR setup, but he is likely to be included as a batting coach for the Knight Riders.
While the franchise has not confirmed the specifics of his role this time, it is expected that he will resume responsibilities similar to his previous stint, focusing on batting and player development.
