Their journey began when Yuvraj first spotted Abhishek's flair in Punjab's age-group circuits. Yograj Singh, Yuvraj's father, recalled how it wasn't chance but instinct that drew Yuvraj to the youngster.

"When we asked about a list of Abhishek Sharma's performances from the PCA and the coaches. Do you know what they said? Sir, he is a bowler. He bowls. Yuvi said, 'You just look at his performance records.' So, when we saw the record, Abhishek already had 24 hundreds. Yuvi said, 'Why are you giving wrong information? Why? This man has made 24 centuries'."

Yuvraj took it personally - not just as a mentor, but as a custodian of cricketing justice. He ensured the young prodigy's batting potential wasn't buried under misinformed perceptions. It was the kind of clarity only a mentor could offer - rooted in experience, yet driven by instinct.

And the former India star took the onus upon himself to mentor the young Punjab boy, which also had the role of stopping him from the late-night parties, and often a meet-up with girlfriends.

Yograj revealed, "Late night parties... girlfriend. What happened then? Yuvraj said, 'Lock him.' He came under Yuvraj Singh's wings as his father couldn't handle him. Yuvi shouted, 'Where are you?' I heard him shout. 'It's 9 pm, go to bed. Do you understand me? I am coming.' He then handed over the phone and went to bed. Yuvi then told his father to wake him up at 5 am."

This wasn't just coaching - this was transformation. From lifestyle interventions to technical fine-tuning, Yuvraj moulded Abhishek into a cricketer of discipline and ambition.

Abhishek has also been vocal about his mentor and has thanked him in every step. The SRH batter will be aiming to continue the same as his team meet Mumbai Indians on Wednesday (April 23).
