IPL 2025 Auction: Five Tamil Nadu players CSK can eye in Mega Auction

Chennai Super Kings are heading towards the IPL 2025 mega auction with some major coups already in their ranks.

MS Dhoni has been their biggest signing as the former India captain has been enlisted as an uncapped player for Rs 4 crore. Apart from that, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja are their most expensive signings with Rs 18 crore, whereas Shivam Dube and Matheesha Pathirana have been retained for Rs 12 and Rs 13 crore respectively.

Five Tamil Nadu players CSK

The auction will be a crucial one for CSK, as they look to form a strong squad for the next IPL cycle. CSK had a dismal outing in the IPL 2024 season, which saw them not qualifying for the playoffs. With Ruturaj Gaikwad at the helm, they will be hoping to rewrite a new chapter in history books.

CSK are known for their smart buys in auction. The five-time IPL champions will eye some major coups but along with that, a few of youngsters and experienced domestic players will also be on their radar.

The Super Kings have always had a rich Tamil Nadu heritage in their team. Being a team from Chennai, many of the greats of Tamil Nadu cricket have donned the yellow shirt of CSK over the years - Murali Vijay, Subramaniam Badrinath, Lakshmipathy Balaji, Ravichandran Ashwin being the most prominent ones.

In the 2025 mega auction, CSK would love to bring the Tamil contingency in their team. And here are five names they may bring in-

Washington Sundar

The Chennai-born Washington Sundar would love to play for his local franchise, and CSK may have ample reasons to sign him in the auction. Sundar is an excellent bowler in the T20 format, and coupled with his batting abilities, the India all-rounder can be a good buy for the Super Kings. He was left out by the Sunrisers Hyderabad and is likely to have multiple suitors in the auction.

T Natarajan

With Matheesha Pathirana already in the squad, CSK do have a strong headstart in their pace department. But someone like Thangarasu Natarajan will always be on their radar. The Salem-born left arm pacer has been a revelation in the IPL and his excellent death bowling skills can be a big reason for CSK to buy him. After an underwhelming season with SRH, he was released. The 33-year-old possesses fantastic skills and can revive his career at CSK and the Tamil Nadu connection makes it a more intriguing signing.

Pradosh Paul

Pradosh Paul has been rising by leaps and bounds in domestic circuit. The 23-year-old has scored heaps of runs in the tournaments, most notably in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) this year. He is a wicketkeeper-batter who has an excellent hitting ability. He had a superb season with Chepauk Super Gillies in the TNPL and can be roped in as a backup for MS Dhoni.

R Sai Kishore

Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore is another much-improved cricketer who has shown his skills in the IPL. He was part of the Gujarat Titans squad and also played a key part in India's Asian Games winning team. Sai Kishore is a left-arm spinner who bowls accurate, economical spells in the middle overs - a skill Chennai Super Kings may want to have in their lineup. Hence they may keep an eye on him in the auction.

Ravichandran Ashwin

Will the prodigal son come back home after the voyage? Ravichandran Ashwin's IPL journey started with Chennai Super Kings back in 2008 and this is the franchise where he became a star. Since leaving in 2018, Ashwin has represented Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, and most recently, the Rajasthan Royals. But the 38-year-old looks set to return to his abode after seven long seasons. The experience and class the India legend carries is something CSK would cherish to have in their ranks. Ashwin would have no shortage of suitors in the auction but CSK's pursuance may script a homecoming for the veteran.
