IPL 2025 Auction: Four teams who will eye Phil Salt in Mega Auction

Phil Salt's outstanding IPL 2024 outing wasn't enough to earn him a retention spot in the Kolkata Knight Riders squad ahead of the mega auction.

The English batter had a blast for KKR last season. Signed on as a replacement for Jason Roy, Salt formed a glorious partnership with Sunil Narine at the top and amassed 435 runs in just 12 matches. The English batter didn't play in the playoffs due to international duty.

IPL 2024 was just Salt's second season in the tournament. He has already scored 653 runs at an average of 34.37, along with a vicious strike rate of 175. The Englishman's poise at the top has continued for his country as well.

As the mega auction arrives, there will be no shortage of Phil Salt's suitors among the teams. His blitzkrieg at the top coupled with excellent wicketkeeping ability looks set to make him a precious name in the auction table. And here are four teams who may bid all guns blazing for him.

Punjab Kings

With the biggest purse in the auction, Punjab Kings would fancy to have Phil Salt. The England batter solves both opening and wicketkeeping problems for them, which is an enticing factor for them going for Salt. Although retained Prabhsimran Singh can also keep wickets, Ricky Ponting would love someone experience as Salt to solidify their batting order and keeping.

Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians may fancy Phil Salt at the top of the order with Rohit Sharma, which will be a fearsome top order for any bowling unit. Salt also solves their wicketkeeping issue, which has a blank after Ishan Kishan's release. Hence, the 28-year-old may be an option for Mumbai Indians to explore in the auction.

Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR, despite leaving Phil Salt out, are certain to take part in the auction. Although KKR can't afford to spend a fortune on Salt, they would be in the race at the early stages. The partnership between Salt and Narine was exquisite last season, and it can ignite the same magic if the Knight Riders are able to prize away their English boy again in the mega auction.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru

Phil Salt would also entice a lot of interest from Royal Challengers Bengaluru as well. With Faf du Plessis released, Salt at the top can be a perfect partner for Virat Kohli, while his wicketkeeping is an added incentive. With a pretty decent purse, RCB can splash a few extra crores in they want the England international. They need a solid opening pair and Salt's arrival would ensure that.
