IPL 2025 Auction: SRH Most Expensive Buys in Auction History Ahead of Mega Bidding Show in Jeddah

As the IPL 2025 Auction approaches, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will look to make pivotal signings to bolster their squad. Over the years, SRH has consistently pursued marquee players, often splurging to secure match-winners.

From domestic talents to international stars, the franchise's spending pattern reveals its intent to compete at the highest level. Here’s a look at SRH’s most expensive buys across IPL seasons.

IPL 2025 Auction From Shikhar Dhawan to Pat Cummins Most Expensive Buys for Sunrisers Hyderabad in Each Season

2013: Dale Steyn (₹6.4 crore) and Thisara Perera (₹3.6 crore)

In their inaugural IPL season, SRH retained South African speedster Dale Steyn for ₹6.4 crore, a deal carried over from the now-defunct Deccan Chargers. Steyn’s fiery pace and match-winning abilities made him a cornerstone of their bowling attack.

Alongside this retention, SRH’s most expensive signing at the auction was Thisara Perera, bought for ₹3.6 crore. The Sri Lankan all-rounder’s ability to contribute with both bat and ball added depth to the squad.

2014-2017: Shikhar Dhawan (₹12.5 crore)

The franchise retained Shikhar Dhawan, making him their most expensive player for several seasons. With his consistent performances at the top order, Dhawan became a vital cog in SRH’s batting lineup, scoring 2518 runs across 85 matches for the team.

2018: Manish Pandey (₹11 crore)

SRH splurged ₹11 crore to acquire Manish Pandey, aiming to strengthen their middle order. Though his tenure with the franchise saw mixed results, Pandey managed 1345 runs in 51 matches, providing occasional stability in crucial games.

2019-2021: David Warner (₹12.5 crore)

By 2019, David Warner was already synonymous with SRH’s success. Retained at ₹12.5 crore, Warner’s impact on the franchise was monumental. Across his tenure, he amassed over 4000 runs at an exceptional average of 49.55 and led the team to their maiden IPL title in 2016.

2022: Kane Williamson (₹14 crore)

In a bid to find leadership continuity post-Warner, SRH retained Kane Williamson for ₹14 crore in 2022. While Williamson’s captaincy brought moments of promise, his below-par performances that season led to his release.

2023: Harry Brook (₹13.25 crore)

SRH stunned everyone by shelling out ₹13.25 crore for England’s rising star Harry Brook in the IPL 2023 Auction. The move reflected the franchise’s focus on younger talent, banking on Brook’s dynamic batting prowess.

2024: Pat Cummins (₹20.5 crore)

The IPL 2024 Auction saw SRH break the bank to secure Australian Test and ODI captain Pat Cummins for ₹20.5 crore, making him the second-most expensive player in IPL history. After skipping the IPL in 2023 to prioritise international commitments, Cummins returned with immense value, leading Australia to victories in both the World Test Championship (WTC) and ODI World Cup. His leadership credentials and fiery pace make him a potential candidate to take over the captaincy from Aiden Markram, adding both strategic acumen and world-class bowling to SRH’s arsenal.
