Venkatesh Iyer has reunited with the Kolkata Knight Riders as the IPL 2024 champions have bought the all-rounder back in the mega auction.

The Kolkata Knight Riders, who went into the mega event with Rs 51 crore purse, went all in for Venkatesh and after a strong battle with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, managed to emerge unscathed.

Kolkata Knight Riders spent Rs 23.75 crore on Venkatesh Iyer, making him the 4th most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League. After missing out on Shreyas Iyer earlier in the day, the Knight Riders were determined to keep hold of Venkatesh. RCB also gave a massive fight but the perseverance from the Knights sailed them through in the auction.

Venkatesh Iyer, an all-rounder from Madhya Pradesh, made his IPL debut for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 2021 season and quickly became a pivotal player for the franchise. Known for his aggressive batting and medium-pace bowling, Iyer rose to prominence during the UAE leg of IPL 2021. He played a crucial role in KKR's turnaround that season, delivering match-winning performances at the top of the order. His fearless approach as an opener saw him score 370 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate of over 128, including four half-centuries.

In IPL 2022, while KKR struggled as a team, Iyer showcased glimpses of his potential but faced challenges maintaining consistency. By IPL 2023, he had matured as a player, notching his maiden IPL century (104 off 51 balls) against the Mumbai Indians, further solidifying his reputation as a game-changer.

In the last IPL season, the Indian all-rounder performed brilliantly and scored 370 runs with a strike rate of 145.
