The IPL 2025 Auction brought with it a rollercoaster of surprises, where some players saw meteoric rises in pay, while others faced dramatic slashes.
The two-day event in Jeddah made the fortunes of a lot of players with gigantic increments, while some witnessed a dramatic slide in their stocks.

Jitesh Sharma emerged as the biggest beneficiary, earning a mind-boggling 5400% raise. The Punjab batter, who was on a Rs 20 lakh contract last year, was snapped up by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for a whopping 11 crore. The staggering jump reflects both his consistent performances and the growing demand for impactful finishers in the T20 format, which earned him a spot in the Indian team as well.
Venkatesh Iyer and Shreyas Iyer were among those who saw huge pay hikes. Venkatesh's contract surged from INR 8 crore to INR 23.75 crore, while Shreyas earned a raise of INR 14.25 crore, now drawing an IPL-record INR 26.75 crore.
Meanwhile, Rasikh Salam Dar went from relative obscurity to stardom, securing 20 times his base price of INR 30 lakh when RCB splurged INR 6 crore on him, a salary hike of 2900 per cent for the Jammu and Kashmir pacer. Afghan spinner Allah Ghazanfar also had a massive price hike as he was signed by Mumbai Indians.
| Player | Team | Previous Price | New Price | Hike |
| Jitesh Sharma | RCB | Rs 20 lakh | Rs 11 crore | 5400 % |
| Rasikh Salam Dar | RCB | Rs 20 lakh | Rs 6 crore | 2900 % |

On the flip side, England all-rounder Sam Curran faced a harsh reality check. After being the costliest player in the 2023 auction (Rs 18.5 crore, Punjab Kings), Curran was picked by Chennai Super Kings this year for just Rs 2.4 crore, taking a massive Rs 16.1 crore pay cut. It marked one of the sharpest salary drops in IPL history.
The anticipated stock of Mitchell Starc also fell sharply. The Australian, who was signed for Rs 24.75 crore a year ago, took more than a 50 per cent pay cut with the new deal with Delhi Capitals for Rs 11.75 crore.
Another player whose earnings have largely been curbed is Sameer Rizvi. The Uttar Pradesh player had a massive Rs 8.4 crore deal with Chennai Super Kings last year, but it has stooped down 88.69 per cent to a new salary of Rs 95 lakh with Delhi Capitals. Deepak Hooda's price also dropped a staggering 70 per cent, while Glenn Maxwell reunited with Punjab only after a pay cut of 61.82 per cent.
