The IPL 2025 mega auction, set to take place in Jeddah, presents the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) with a golden opportunity to revamp their squad.
Despite a rich history, KKR has struggled for consistency in recent years, often reliant on a few standout performers. But after a decade-long trophy drought, it finally ended in IPL 2024 as they lifted the title.

The three-time IPL champions have retained six players ahead of the mega auction. Sunil Narine and Andre Russell are the overseas mainstays who will continue with KKR, while Varun Chakravarthy, Rinku Singh, Harshit Rana and Ramandeep Singh are the retained Indian players.
As the auction list is already out, the first 12 players are the marquee players. Former KKR captain Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and others make the star-studded list who will attract some gigantic funds in the auction.
KKR, with their purse of Rs 51 crore in the auction, may have to be reserved in the initial phase of the event. But there are a few names whom the Knight Riders can target. With the retentions, they have already covered a lot of bases like lower middle order, pace and spin options - but they can still tick a few more boxes.
Here are four IPL 2025 Marquee players the Knight Riders can target in the mega auction-
Arshdeep Singh has emerged as one of India's most reliable left-arm pacers, particularly in death overs. His ability to execute yorkers under pressure has made him a key player in both IPL and international cricket.
Fills KKR's Death Bowling Gap: The Knight Riders have often lacked a specialist death bowler, and Arshdeep could solve this issue. The India pacer can fill the role perfectly for them.
Left-Arm Variation: Arshdeep's left-arm angle brings variety to KKR's attack, complementing right-arm pacers and spinners like Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy. Arshdeep's control and temperament make him a valuable addition, especially on flat tracks like Eden Gardens.
Shami's impeccable ability to swing the ball in the powerplay and pick up wickets consistently makes him an asset for any team. His recent IPL seasons with Gujarat Titans showcased his expertise in leading a pace attack.
Powerplay Specialist: KKR have struggled to take early wickets in recent seasons, often allowing opposition batters to settle. Shami's powerplay prowess could address this gap.
Leadership in Bowling: Shami can spearhead the KKR pace attack which could bolster the team's strategy in crucial matches. Also, Harshit Rana will be massively aided by Shami and the duo can strike a formidable partnership.
KL Rahul is one of the most consistent batters in IPL history, capable of playing anchor innings while accelerating when needed. His versatility across batting positions makes him a sought-after player. After leaving LSG, there will be a lot of suitors for the India star.
Fixing the Top Order: KKR have struggled with inconsistent openers in recent years. Rahul's stability as an opener could give them a strong foundation as he can partner Sunil Narine.
Captaincy Option: If KKR look to replace or share leadership responsibilities, Rahul's experience as an IPL captain makes him a viable candidate. Rahul's ability to adapt his game to the situation accelerating or anchoring suits KKR's batting lineup.
Yuzvendra Chahal, India's leading T20I wicket-taker will be in demand in the auction. The crafty leg-spinner, with an ocean of experience, will be a big addition to any team and KKR can eye him.
Formidable Spin Attack: Yuzvendra Chahal's inclusion will complete KKR's bowling attack. They can play three spinners according to conditions, and Chahal's tricks can be beneficial at any surface for them.
May come Cheap: With his lack of India appearances, Chahal may be one of the big names who may come at a bargain for the Knight Riders. The Haryana-born is a champion at his game KKR may avail him at a cheap price.
