IPL Auction 2025: The much-anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction is set to take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, marking only the second time in IPL history that the auction will be held outside of India.
The previous auction in 2024 also took place in the Middle East, hosted in Dubai. This year, fans can expect a star-studded player lineup, intense bidding wars, and plenty of surprises as franchises aim to build formidable squads for the upcoming season.

Out of the 574 players shortlisted for the auction, 204 roster spots remain open after the ten franchises retained 46 players collectively. Each franchise is allowed a squad of up to 25 players, including a maximum of eight overseas players.
With 48 capped Indians and 193 capped overseas players in the pool, 70 overseas spots are open, offering plenty of variety for teams to enhance their rosters.
The auction will open with two sets of marquee players, each set containing six elite players. Following these marquee sets, players will be presented by category, including batsmen, all-rounders, wicketkeepers, fast bowlers, and spinners.
The uncapped players, also organized by specialisation, will follow, leading to a second round for capped players. Once these steps are complete, the accelerated auction phase will begin, giving franchises a final opportunity to refine their rosters.

This year's auction comes with some notable changes and reintroductions to the rulebook, particularly the Right-to-Match (RTM) card and the accelerated auction process.
For the first time since 2018, the RTM card is being reintroduced, providing franchisees with an additional way to secure key players from their previous squads. Here's how it works:
Each franchise can use the RTM card for a maximum of five capped players and two uncapped players within the pool.
The auction's accelerated phase will commence once 116 players have gone through the regular bidding process. The 117th player, uncapped batter Ricky Bhui, marks the beginning of the accelerated round. This streamlined phase will occur in two stages:
First Phase: Franchises nominate players from the remaining list (117 to 574) that they wish to see in the auction.
Second Phase: Any players left unsold or un-presented during the full list can be reintroduced if franchises nominate them to be presented again.
This process helps keep the auction dynamic and allows franchises to revisit potential options if their bidding plans change midway through the event.
The excitement will kick off at 3:00 PM IST on November 24, with live telecasts available on the Star Sports Network. Fans can also catch the live streaming on the JioCinema app and website, ensuring they won't miss a moment of the action as teams vie for the best talent available.
