IPL 2025 Auction: Mayank Yadav may stay with LSG, set to earn huge money after India debut

By MyKhel Staff

Mayank Yadav's impressive debut in the T20I match against Bangladesh on Sunday has not only marked his arrival on the international scene but has also poised him to join the retention club for Lucknow Super Giants.

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are now faced with the necessity of shelling out a minimum of Rs 11 crore to secure Yadav's services for the upcoming season.

Mayank Yadav made a swift transition from an 'uncapped player' to a 'capped player' following his international debut against Bangladesh, thereby elevating his retention price according to IPL rules.

Under the IPL retention guidelines, any 'uncapped player' transitioning into an international player across any format before the auction is classified as a 'capped player.' This categorization increases their retention cost to Rs 18 crore for the first choice, Rs 14 crore for the second, and Rs 11 crore for the third - meaning LSG will have to spend at least Rs 11 crore on the Indian pacer.

Amid this, LSG are expected to keep Mayank Yadav and continue with the pacer. The Indian bowler, who made an excellent debut against Bangladesh, is tipped to be retained by Lucknow ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. If Mayank is offloaded for an auction, the move can get too risky for LSG as there will be many suitors for the youngster.

"There is no way that LSG will put a rare bowler like Mayank back in the auction pool. They have invested in him for the past two seasons and he will certainly be one among the top three retentions," an unnamed IPL insider was quoted as saying by PTI.

While LSG's 2024 roster boasts big names such as KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock, Nicholas Pooran, and Marcus Stoinis, the franchise's leadership, including head coach Justin Langer and new mentor Zaheer Khan, recognize the uniqueness of Mayank's raw pace and potential.

Mayank made his debut for India in Gwalior on Sunday (October 6) and bowled excellently. He racked up a maiden in his very first over and then got the wicket of Mahmudullah in his second over. The pacer also clocked fast deliveries and made a very impressive impression on his first taste of international cricket.
