IPL 2025 Auction: MS Dhoni to Mitchell Starc - Most Expensive Buy in Every IPL Auction So Far From 2008 to 2024

The next IPL Auction is just around the corner with over 500 players making the final list. Over 200 slots will be up for grabs, including 70 overseas during the two-day bidding process, which is set to take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

A total of 574 players have made the IPL Auction players list. Among the 574, 366 are Indian players and 208 are foreign players. Over the years, the IPL Auction has seen players make big bucks with franchises going all out to land their target.

Most expensive buy in every IPL Auction so far from 2008 to 2024

Right from the first-ever player auction in 2008, we have seen franchises splash the cash to get their player. In 2008, Mahendra Singh Dhoni was the most expensive player. Since then there have been different players who have taken that position.

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh and England Test captain Ben Stokes are the only player to end an auction as the most expensive player at the auction twice. So far, in the 17 IPL Auctions, Indian player has finished as the most expensive buy seven times.

Overseas players have often finished as the top earner in IPL Auctions. Most recently, Australia pacers Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc became the first players to breach the Rs 20 Crore-mark. Here is a look at the costliest player at IPL Auctions:
