The IPL 2025 auction, held in Jeddah, rewrote the league’s financial history, with a staggering ₹639.15 crore spent across 182 players, including 62 overseas players.
Franchises broke the bank to sign their target players in the mega auction, with Rishabh Pant becoming the most expensive player in IPL history after being signed by the Lucknow Super Giants for a mouthwatering sum of ₹27 crore.

This year’s total spending made IPL 2025 the costliest auction ever, eclipsing the ₹551.7 crore spent in IPL 2022, the previous record-holder. In 2022, big-ticket purchases included Ishan Kishan (₹15.25 crore), Deepak Chahar (₹14 crore), and Shreyas Iyer (₹12.25 crore).
In contrast, 2025 saw multiple players breach the ₹20 crore mark, reflecting the league's financial growth. Pant’s ₹27 crore deal topped Ishan Kishan’s record by nearly ₹12 crore, emphasising the escalating stakes for franchise owners.
Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders also splurged, securing marquee players like Shreyas Iyer (₹26.75 crore) and Venkatesh Iyer (₹23.75 crore), respectively.
The auction also witnessed a focus on bowlers, with Punjab snapping up Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal for ₹18 crore each. The spending frenzy underscored the value placed on match-winners and specialists in this auction cycle.
Other than the bonafide stars of the T20 game, the franchises also opted to invest in their futures. In an incredible outcome, 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi was acquired by the Rajasthan Royals for a sum of ₹1.10 crore, signifying the faith that they have on the teenage prodigy.
After two days of frenzied spending by the ten teams, the Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings eventually emerged as the biggest spenders in this year’s mega auction, with only ₹5 lakh remaining in their respective transfer kitties at the end of Day 2 of the bidding.
Note: Till 2013, the IPL Auctions were conducted in USD, which was then changed to INR (₹). The approximate fees in INR has been mentioned.
