IPL 2025 Auction: 'Rishabh Pant Expected to Exceed Rs 25 Crore Mark,' Claims Suresh Raina

Rishabh Pant's unique qualities are expected to spark intense bidding at the IPL mega auction in Jeddah on Sunday. Former India batter Suresh Raina believes Pant might surpass the Rs 25 crore mark.

Previously, Kolkata Knight Riders paid Rs 24.75 crore for Australian pacer Mitchell Starc, setting a tournament record. Raina anticipates this record could be broken with Pant's auction.

Rishabh Pant Could Exceed Rs 25 Crore in IPL

Raina emphasised Pant's leadership skills and charisma, stating, "More than his batting and keeping, he’s a great character to have in the team when he is a captain. Any owner or coach would not like to miss his X-factor." Pant's energy and player rapport make him a valuable asset. Raina predicts teams like Punjab, Delhi, KKR, and RCB will compete fiercely for him.

Pant's Potential Teams

Raina speculates that Royal Challengers Bengaluru might consider Pant as a captain after releasing Faf du Plessis. He mentioned other options like KL Rahul or even bringing back Du Plessis. "Virat Kohli knows the DNA of RCB but he has declined to captain the side," Raina noted. He added that Pant could also lead KKR, attracting many fans.

Meanwhile, Arshdeep Singh's performance in India's recent T20I series win against South Africa was noteworthy. Despite his success, Punjab Kings did not retain him. Raina believes this could work in Arshdeep's favour during the auction. "He’s a proven performer," said Raina, highlighting Arshdeep's potential value.

CSK and MI Strategies

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have Rs 55 crore to spend and need to strengthen their spin attack. Raina suggests targeting players like Maheesh Theekshana or Yuzvendra Chahal. CSK also needs an overseas batter, possibly Daryl Mitchell. Mumbai Indians (MI), with key retentions like Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma, aim to enhance their spin department too.

Mumbai might consider Yuzvendra Chahal or Ashwin for their spin attack. The Rohit-Ashwin combination could be strategic for them. Additionally, MI is looking for a wicketkeeper and may use RTM for Ishan Kishan. Players like Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra are also expected to attract high bids due to their recent performances.

The upcoming auction promises excitement with potential record-breaking bids for players like Pant and Arshdeep. Teams are strategising to fill key positions and strengthen their squads for the next IPL season. The focus remains on acquiring players who can bring both skill and leadership to their teams.
