IPL 2025 Auction: Rovman Powell to Venkatesh Iyer – Five Best Buys of KKR in Mega Auction

Kolkata Knight Riders delved into their strategy of buying back the majority of their former players in the IPL 2025 mega auction.

The Knight Riders aimed to re-sign many of the players who were part of their title-winning season, and managed to be successful as well.

They paid a gigantic amount of Rs 23.75 crore for Venkatesh Iyer, while also managing to rope in the likes of Vaibhav Arora, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, and Manish Pandey. Among the new names, South African batter Quinton de Kock is a prominent face, while Australia's left-arm pacer Spencer Johnson was also another notable inclusion.

KKR Best Buys in IPL 2025 Auction

Here are the five best buys for KKR in the IPL 2025 auction.

Venkatesh Iyer

Price: ₹23.75 Cr

Role: All-Rounder

Breakout star for KKR, Venkatesh Iyer scored 370 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate of 128, leading the team to the finals in IPL 2021. Venkatesh Iyer smashed a scintillating 104 off 51 balls against MI, the first KKR century in over a decade.

Venkatesh was instrumental in KKR's championship winning season in 2024 and was excellent throughout the season. He scored two unbeaten fifties in the two playoff matches.

Umran Malik

Price: ₹75 lakh

Role: Fast Bowler

Fastest Bowler in IPL: Regularly clocking 150+ kmph, Umran has consistently rattled batsmen.

IPL 2022: Bagged 22 wickets in 14 matches for SRH, including a 5-wicket haul (5/25) against Gujarat Titans. His raw pace could transform KKR's bowling attack.

Given the amount KKR has paid for Umran Malik, it is a good buy for them. The Jammu & Kashmir player hasn't had the best of times in the last year or so but will be raring to make a strong comeback with the Purple and Gold in IPL.

Rovman Powell

Price: ₹1.5 Cr

Role: Power Hitter (Middle Order)

IPL 2022: Played for Delhi Capitals, hitting 250+ runs with a strike rate of 150+.

Known for his ability to finish games, Powell's power-hitting in the death overs complements KKR's middle-order strength.

Rovman Powell is an extremely important inclusion for KKR just because of the quality he possesses with both bat and ball. He is Kolkata's only replacement for Andre Russell and the deal they had for Powell seems a pretty decent one.

Vaibhav Arora

Price: ₹1.8 Cr

Role: Right-arm Medium Pacer

IPL 2022: Impressed with his ability to swing the new ball, picking up 9 wickets in 6 matches for PBKS.

His consistent powerplay performance adds depth to KKR's bowling lineup. Vaibhav Arora was instrumental for the Knight Riders in 2024, where he picked up 11 wickets in 10 matches. Arora is Kolkata's solitary swing bowler and is going to play a key part for them.

Angkrish Raghuvanshi

Price: ₹3 Cr

Role: Top Order Batter

U19 World Cup 2022: Scored 278 runs, including a match-winning 144 off 120 balls against Uganda.

A promising youngster, Angkrish offers KKR a long-term opening option and can play the anchor role. He made his IPL debut in 2024 and showcased his immense talent with a few excellent knocks. The Mumbai batter epitomizes elite talent and is definitely going to play a bigger role for the Knights in IPL 2025.

Angkrish can also open the innings for KKR, giving them enough flexibility at the top order.
