The world of cricket is waiting with excitement as the IPL 2025 mega auction is just a day away. The two-day extravaganza will take place in Jeddah on Sunday and Monday (November 24 and 25).
A plethora of big names will be up for the taking as the ten IPL franchises look to formulate a strong squad ahead of the upcoming season.

Chennai Super Kings, the five-time IPL champions, are entering the auction with a purse of Rs 55 crore. After retaining five players from the maximum six, they have retained the key parts of their nucleus.
Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube are the capped Indian players retained, while Sri Lanka pacer Matheesha Pathirana is the only overseas star who will continue with them. Along with these four, MS Dhoni, the evergreen star of Chennai Super Kings is also retained as an uncapped player.
Dhoni, who has been a mainstay at CSK since its inception, is set to extend his IPL career for another season. The former India captain has always been a key figure at the franchise and is already preparing hard for the upcoming assignment.
As the CSK franchise attends the IPL mega auction, there is a general query if Dhoni will also attend and play a part in the auction decisions.
MS Dhoni has historically not been seen attending IPL player auctions in person. Instead, he typically entrusts the decision-making responsibilities during auctions to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) management team, which includes key figures like head coach Stephen Fleming. Dhoni focuses on strategic inputs ahead of the auction, often providing his guidance remotely on the type of players the team should target based on the team's requirements.
Regarding the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction, there is no official confirmation about Dhoni attending. However, it is consistent with his past behaviour to remain absent from such events and allow the CSK management to execute the bidding strategy. CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad looks likely to be attending the event.
If Dhoni does choose to attend, it would be a rare and momentous occasion, but his history suggests he prefers to lead from behind the scenes. Although Dhoni will fully be involved in the decisions, he is surely not going to be present in the flesh at the auction table.
