IPL 2025: Axar Patel Joins Hardik Pandya & 4 Other Skippers in BCCI's Reprimanded List Following DC vs MI

By MyKhel Staff

Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Axar Patel has been punished by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) following the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 clash against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday (April 13).

Axar has joined fellow captains Hardik Pandya of MI, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Rajat Patidar, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag of Rajasthan Royals in BCCI's reprimanded list.

Axar Patel has been fined for slow-over rate in DC vs MI IPL 2025 match 29

Axar has been fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during his team's 12-run defeat to MI at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. MI rode on Tilak Varma's fifty to post 205 for 5 in 20 overs, while DC were all out for 193 in 19 overs with Karun Nair's 89 going in vain.

"Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 29 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. As this was his team's first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL's Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Patel was fined INR 12 lakh," the BCCI said in a release.

Unlike the previous seasons, IPL has done away with match suspensions and there are only fines and in-game field restrictions like not allowing more than four fielders outside the ring depending on the number of overs not bowled within the allowed time.

Earlier, Hardik Pandya was penalised for maintaining slow over-rate in MI's clash against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad, while RCB skipper Rajat Patidar paid the price for the same offence in the match against MI at Wankhede.

LSG captain Rishabh Pant was also punished for slow over-rate in the fixture against MI, while RR's regular captain Samson and stand-in skipper Parag were punished for slow over-rates against Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings respectively.

Coming back to the DC vs MI clash, this was Delhi Capitals' first defeat in the tournament after four-match winning start. Meanwhile, Axar continued to struggle, having gone wicketless in five matches and scoring only 67 runs with the bat.
