IPL 2025: ‘Be Scared of Them’ – Piyush Chawla Warns Other Teams After Mumbai Indians Extend Winning Streak

By MyKhel Staff

Former Indian spinner and JioStar expert Piyush Chawla has warned the other teams to be scared of Mumbai Indians after the five-time champions extended their winning streak to five in IPL 2025 on Sunday (April 27).

Traditional slow starters MI started the ongoing season also on a sour note, losing four of their first five matches. But since then Hardik Pandya's side has remained undefeated, showcasing why they are the joint-record winners of the Indian Premier League.

Mumbai Indians

In their most recent outing, MI rode on a collective team effort to seal a comprehensive 54-run victory over Lucknow Super Giants at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai to extend their winning streak to five.

Following the match, Chawla, who had a stint with the Mumbai Indians, shared his insights on the team's recent form and highlighted the sheer depth of match-winning talent within their squad.

"If you see the number of match winners Mumbai Indians have in their squad, you start right from the beginning till number 11. Ryan Rickelton - the knock that he played today - we know Rohit Sharma, what he has done in the last two games. Today, Bumrah with the ball, Will Jacks came in, and he provided those two crucial wickets," Chawla said when speaking exclusively on Kuhl Fans Match Centre Live on JioHotstar.

"So, I think things are falling in place; whatever Hardik is doing, it's happening for the team, and that's what this team is all about. You have so many match winners in that playing XI."

After Suryakumar Yadav and Ryan Rickelton scored fine fifties to power Mumbai Indians to 215 in their allotted 20 overs, Bumrah, who came in as impact sub, did the damage with the ball, taking 4 wickets to bundle out DC for 161.

Bumrah had missed the start of the season and as a result MI bowling attack did not click, but ever since he returned from the injury layoff, the five time champions have looked a different side. Chawla also pointed out that as one of the reason for MI's dominant run before warning the other contenders in IPL 2025.

"Today, Jasprit Bumrah came in as an impact player and what impact he has left on the game! So that's why this team is on a roll, and when Mumbai Indians are on a roll, every other team should be scared of them."

Chawla, who also had stints at various other sides, made this statement due to Mumbai Indians' past record in the Indian Premier League when they have gone on a winning streak of five or more matches.

What happened when Mumbai Indians went on a winning streak in previous IPL seasons?

Mumbai Indians has achieved five or more consecutive wins six times in the history of the league. And during the six instances of their winning streaks, four of them have finished with title wins.

While they missed out on a title despite the winning streaks in 2008 and 2010. Mumbai Indians have ended up with a trophy in four other winning runs. In 2010, they ended up as the runners-up and in 2008, a six-match streak saw MI finish fifth in the league stage.

Mumbai Indians landed their first IPL title also when they had recorded a five-match winning streak in 2013. In the 2015 season also a five-match streak saw them win their second title. In 2017, MI went on a six-match winning streak to win their third title before a five match streak saw them lift the cup again in 2020.
