Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Thursday (February 13) named Rajat Patidar as the men's team captain for the upcoming season of Indian Premier League - IPL 2025, starting March 21.
The 31-year-old Madhya Pradesh skipper replaced South African Faf du Plessis, who was released from the squad last year. Patidar became the fourth Indian to be appointed the captain of the Bengaluru-based side and also the eighth overall in the franchise's history.

Patidar was also the third new captaincy appointment ahead of the IPL 2025 following the likes of Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer, who moved to new teams as the most expensive players in IPL history during the two-day mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia last November.
Rishabh Pant, who switched Delhi Capitals for Lucknow Super Giants, was named the captain of the Sanjiv Goenka owned side earlier this year, when Punjab Kings appointed Shreyas Iyer as the skipper following his release from the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders.
With Patidar and Rahane's appointment at RCB and KKR respectively, only Delhi Capitals is left to make their announcement regarding the captain of the team. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians confirmed Hardik Pandya will continue to lead the side despite an unrest among supporters last season.
Hardik Pandya had replaced Rohit Sharma in the MI captaincy role last year with the franchise and the player himself drawing a lot of criticism from some sections of the fanbase and experts. But, the five-time champions have kept their trust in the all-rounder, and retained him in the role for the new season.
Like Mumbai Indians, fellow five-time champions Chennai Super Kings also have retained Ruturaj Gaikwad at the helm despite the team finishing outside the playoff places last season. Similarly, inaugural champions Rajasthan Royals will continue with Sanju Samson leading the side for another season.
Gujarat Titans, who appointed Shubman Gill as the captain following Hardik's exit from the franchise, have also retained the young Indian batter as skipper for the upcoming 2025 edition of IPL.
Also, Sunrisers Hyderabad had retained Australian pacer Pat Cummins as the skipper following the franchise's runner up finish last season. An injury to the Aussie captain saw him being ruled out of the Champions Trophy, but Cummins is likely to feature in the IPL if he completes recovering from the ankle issue.
Defending champions KKR announced Ajinkya Rahane as their captain in March, while Delhi Capitals is yet to name their skipper with KL Rahul and Axar Patel being the favourites for the vacant role. Here is a look at the captains list ahead of IPL 2025:
