IPL 2025: CSK appoints former India player as New Coach who played for RCB

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have roped in new personnel in their system ahead of the IPL 2025 season.

The five-time IPL champions are in preparation for the new cycle of the Indian Premier League, and ahead of that, CSK announced the arrival of new assistant coach Sridharan Sriram.

The franchise made it official on Monday with a social media post welcoming Sriram, who will now be part of Stephen Fleming's staff, acting as the assistant bowling coach. Eric Simons was appointed as the bowling coach for them.

"Say Yellove to our assistant bowling Coach Sriram Sridharan! Brought up from the tracks of Chepauk to a packed portfolio of coaching tenures in Australia and Bangladesh, he embarks on this new journey with the pride," a social media post from CSK wrote.

Who is Sridharan Sriram?

Sridharan Sriram is a former Indian cricketer who transitioned into coaching, specializing in spin bowling and batting. He has worked as a consultant and coach for various teams, bringing expertise in strategy and player development. He played 8 ODIs for India and picked up 9 wickets in his international career. The 49-year-old also played for Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Capitals in the IPL, once each for both franchises.

Sridharan Sriram Coaching Career

Australia (2016-2022): Sriram served as a spin-bowling coach and consultant, assisting Australian spinners, especially during subcontinent tours.

Bangladesh National Team (2022): Appointed as the technical consultant for Bangladesh for the T20 World Cup.

Sriram was also part of the RCB coaching staff in the IPL, working as a spin bowling coach for them.

The Super Kings will be led by Ruturaj Gaikwad this season while MS Dhoni is set to play his 18th season of IPL, 16th in the Yellow jersey. They are set to commence their IPL 2025 campaign with a blockbuster match against Mumbai Indians on March 23 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
