IPL 2025: CSK Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad Slammed By Fans For '50 Runs' Comment After Loss To RCB

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) secured a dominant 50-run victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Match 8 of IPL 2025 at the Chepauk on Friday, March 28. Despite setting a challenging target of 197, CSK's batting lineup failed to put up a fight, crashing to a disappointing 146/8 in their 20 overs.

But it was Ruturaj Gaikwad, who due to his unusual remark had to face the wrath of the fans on social media.

Ruturaj Gaikwad

''Still happy that we didn't lose by a big margin and at the end it was just 50 runs'', Gaikwad said after the match.

It received widespread flak on X as it was coming from a captain. Here's a look at the reactions.

''Ruturaj Gaikwad is not fit enough to lead the mighty #CSK. He just said that we didn't lose the game by a "big margin" it was just 50 runs. LOL he is also complaining about the "long" flight to Guwahati. Weak mentality, mediocre player, zero aura points!'', a fan wrote on X.

''Ruturaj Gaikwad: At the end we didn't lose with big margin, it was just 50 runs. Csk lost by biggest margin against Rcb and captain is saying just 50 runs'', another user expressed his disappointment.

''Chennai's captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has mentioned 50 runs loss is a small margin loss in a t20 match. I need these kind of confidence in my life, blud is saying 50 runs loss is a small loss in t20 cricket'', a fan commented.

Chasing 197, CSK's innings lacked intent from the start. They suffered an early collapse, losing Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rahul Tripathi within the first two overs. Rachin Ravindra showed some resilience with a 41 off 31 balls, but he found no support from the other end. Key batters like Deepak Hooda and Shivam Dube failed to provide stability, while Sam Curran's brief stay ended tamely.

RCB's pace duo of Josh Hazlewood and Yash Dayal dismantled the CSK lineup. Hazlewood led the charge with 3/21, including crucial breakthroughs upfront. Dayal complemented him perfectly, picking up 2/18, while Liam Livingstone's economical spell of 2/28 further choked CSK's chase.

Even a late flourish from MS Dhoni, who scored an entertaining 30 off 16 balls, was never enough to threaten the visitors. His valiant effort only delayed the inevitable as CSK ended well short of the target.
