Chennai Super Kings remain at the bottom of the IPL 2025 table after their latest defeat at the hands of Mumbai Indians.
On Sunday (April 20), the CSK side faltered yet again and were beaten convincingly, which has slumped them into dire straits.

As of April 20, 2025, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are positioned at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table, with only 4 points from 8 matches. A crushing nine-wicket defeat in their latest outing has not only compounded their woes but also dragged their Net Run Rate (NRR) to -1.392 - the lowest among all franchises.
After the latest defeat, their playoff chances have taken a huge hit. CSK do have six matches remaining, and they are-

At the moment, MS Dhoni and his team have no margin for error. With six defeats already in the first eight matches, they are hanging by a thread in the playoff qualification scenario. Although mathematically their chances are still viable, they will have to pull up their socks and start winning the matches to ensure that converts into reality.
This is CSK's best-case scenario. Winning all six games would take them to 16 points - a benchmark that has historically been good enough for playoff qualification. However, their abysmal NRR means that these wins must be emphatic. Narrow victories might not be enough if multiple teams end on 16 points.
This path keeps them in contention but places their fate in the hands of other results. Even if CSK wins five of the remaining six matches, 14 points may or may not be sufficient depending on how other mid-table teams perform. Their NRR, unless drastically improved, could prove to be the stumbling block in a tie-breaker scenario.
If CSK lose any more than one of their remaining six matches, their playoff chances are virtually zero.
