Chennai Super Kings (CSK) began their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 campaign with a commanding four-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
The thrilling encounter saw CSK chase down the target of 156 with five balls to spare, thanks to a stellar performance with ball and a match-winning display from Noor Ahmad.

Putting to bat first, Mumbai Indians faced an early setback as Rohit Sharma was dismissed for a four-ball duck by Khaleel Ahmed. Khaleel struck again to send Ryan Rickelton back to the pavilion for 13. Will Jacks attempted to counter the early blows, but Ravichandran Ashwin's sharp carrom ball ended his innings at 11.
Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma provided some resistance with scores of 29 and 31, respectively. However, Noor Ahmad's spin proved too challenging for MI's middle order. The left-arm spinner dismantled the lineup, claiming four crucial wickets, including Suryakumar, Tilak Varma, Robin Minz, and Naman Dhir. Despite a late surge from Deepak Chahar (28*), MI concluded their innings at 155/9 in 20 overs.
Noor Ahmad was the standout bowler for CSK, delivering figures of 4/18 in his four-over spell. Khaleel Ahmed also impressed with his pace, picking up three wickets for 29 runs.
In response, CSK's chase began with a cautious approach as Rahul Tripathi fell for just 2 runs. However, Ruturaj Gaikwad anchored the innings with a blistering 53 off 26 balls, providing the platform for a successful chase. Rachin Ravindra played a sensational unbeaten knock of 65 from 45 deliveries, leading his team to the finish line.
Despite Vignesh Puthur's efforts with the ball, taking 3/23, and Will Jacks' economical 1/32, CSK maintained control. Contributions from Shivam Dube (9), Deepak Hooda (3), and Ravindra Jadeja (17) ensured the target was reached comfortably.
For his game-changing bowling performance, Noor Ahmad was named the Player of the Match. His impactful spell tilted the momentum in CSK's favor, making him a deserving recipient of the honor.
