The Punjab Kings (PBKS) secured a four-wicket victory against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2025 on Wednesday (April 30) at the Chepauk, effectively eliminating CSK from playoff contention.
Opting to bowl first, PBKS faced a formidable challenge as CSK's Sam Curran delivered an impressive innings, scoring 88 runs off 47 balls. Despite Curran's efforts, CSK's momentum was disrupted by Yuzvendra Chahal's exceptional 19th over, where he claimed four wickets, including a hat-trick, restricting CSK to a total of 190 runs in 19.2 overs.

In response, PBKS's chase was anchored by Prabhsimran Singh's 54 off 36 balls and Captain Shreyas Iyer's commanding 72 off 41 balls. Their partnership laid a solid foundation, and despite a few setbacks, PBKS reached the target with two balls to spare.
This victory propels PBKS to second place in the standings with 13 points, while CSK, with only two wins from ten matches, are now out of playoff contention. MS Dhoni's team has thus become the first team to be eliminated in the IPL 2025.
MS Dhoni (CSK): I think the batting - yes, it was the first time we put enough runs on the board. But was it a par score? I feel slightly short. Yes, a bit demanding from the batters but I feel we could've got slightly more. I feel we need to take our catches. The partnership between Brevis and Sam was excellent. We didn't play the last four deliveries, and the second last over four batters got out. In close games, those 7 deliveries mean a lot. Well he's a fighter (Curran). That's something we all know. Whenever he turns up he wants to contribute. Unfortunately so far, whenever we tried to give him a chance, the wicket was on the slower side and he found it slightly difficult. But today's wicket was one of the best we've got at home in this tournament. That's the reason I felt we needed another 15 runs. It's the momentum in the middle order (Brevis offers). He's also a very good fielder, he has power and he can hit good balls for boundaries. And he brings good energy. Happy with the way he's playing. He can be an asset going ahead.
Shreyas Iyer (PBKS): "[On his form and knock] I love chasing on any field. I feel like I thrive whenever there is a big total on the board and you need to take the charge and momentum for the team for the rest of the batters to come and go full throttle. I don't want to curse it [his away form] and just stay in the present and reacting to the ball. It doesn't matter where I am playing. I just play with my approach. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Lately I have been battin ga lot in the nets and facing the quick bowlers, especially with the new ball and that's given me immense confidence. This is one part I have really worked on. And the attitude is something that I keep high whenever I approach the field. So I think all these small boxes have been ticked and that's there to see. More than batting, the fielding was difficult since I was running from long-on to long-on. We had to maintain over rate and I had to think at the nick of time. The humidity was more than any other field I've played on. [On the chase] We had a chat in between when Ricky came in and said we have to up the ante and not leave it to the end as they have great death bowlers. So the approach was to just take on the bowlers with the power hitters coming down the order and back ourselves. When I got in I said that I need to play a few balls to see how the wicket is playing. When I played ten balls then I started going. Prabh and Priyansh have been fabulous the way they have been playing. They have been smart, not just slogging."
