MS Dhoni has got Sourav Ganguly's backing as Dada believes the CSK supremo must captain any side that he plays for.
With Ruturaj Gaikwad ruled out of IPL 2025 due to an elbow fracture, MS Dhoni is back at the helm of Chennai Super Kings. As the 43-year-old returns to lead the team he previously captained from 2008 to 2024, questions have resurfaced about his role and form, particularly with the bat.

CSK has had a rough start this season, winning only one of their first five games. However, Dhoni has shown glimpses of his classic finishing ability, averaging 51.50 with a strike rate of 153.73. Despite speculation about his retirement, the veteran wicketkeeper remains central to CSK's campaign.
But former India captain Sourav Ganguly weighed in on the discussion around Dhoni's leadership and form. Ganguly has been an ardent admirer of MS Dhoni and believes he will be reinventing his form as the tournament progresses.
"MS Dhoni's batting will get better- he has started to hit big again. You can't expect the same MS Dhoni at 43 as he was at 25," Ganguly said while speaking to OneIndia Bengali at a Kolkata event on Thursday.
Apart from that, on the captaincy front, Dada had a blunt take. A player such as the caliber of Dhoni can elevate any team and his captaincy has reaped rewards for CSK over the years. And Ganguly believes MSD should lead any team where he plays.
"I don't know whether CSK should change their captain. But I firmly believe that wherever MS plays, he should be the captain. He is a tremendous leader, and CSK always performs differently under his leadership," he added.
CSK are currently struggling in the IPL 2025. After five matches, they have just 2 points and have lost four encounters in a row.
