Delhi Capitals on Tuesday (February 25) announced the appointment of former England white-ball coach and Australia women's head coach Matthew Mott as assistant coach ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025..
Mott is part of the DC support staff revamp following Ricky Ponting's departure as the 51-year-old joins former India cricketer Hemang Badani, who was named head coach in October last year, in the backroom staff that also includes director of cricket Venugopal Rao and bowling coach Munaf Patel.

Mott has an extremely impressive CV following successful stint with the Australian women's cricket team, whom he guided them to two T20 World Cups, one ODI World Cup and four Ashes series wins - over seven years before taking over the England men's team white-ball role in 2022.
The former first-class cricketer, with more than 3,500 runs under his belt in 66 games, stepped down as England coach in July last year after guiding them to the T20 World Cup title in Australia in 2022. Mott had also served as assistant coach of Kolkata Knight Riders during the first two seasons of IPL.
"This is an incredibly exciting time to join the Delhi Capitals and be part of the fantastic coaching unit the franchise has assembled. The squad is a great blend of experience and youth, and I'm eager to link up with Venu and Hemang to get things underway," Mott was quoted as saying on DC website.
"Returning to the IPL after some time makes this challenge even more intriguing. We have a team brimming with potential, and it's all about channeling that talent in the right way to achieve success both on and off the field. I'm looking forward to working closely with the players, the coaching staff, and delivering the results we all aspire to."
Delhi Capitals, who are still looking for their maiden IPL title, have made major changes to their coaching staff ahead of the new season. DC brought in former India player Badani as head coach in place of legendary Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting.
Meanwhile, DC also replaced Australia's James Hopes with ex-India pacer and member of the 2011 World Cup-winning squad, Munaf, as their bowling coach. Plus, the franchise also roped in former India cricketer Vijay Bharadwaj as head talent scout. Here is a look at DC's current backroom staff:
A new captain also will be announced in the lead up to the tournament after Rishabh Pant moved to Lucknow Super Giants during the mega auction. Delhi Capitals, who open their IPL 2025 campaign against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Visakhapatnam on March 24, are likely to name either KL Rahul or Axar Patel as their skipper.
