The Chennai Super Kings (CSK), one of the most decorated teams in IPL history, are enduring a nightmare 2025 campaign. As the five-time champions find themselves at the bottom of the table with just two wins from nine games, fans have made their frustration loud and clear.
In a recent official IPL fan poll conducted on the match broadcast, supporters were asked: "What has gone wrong for CSK this season?" - and the result was overwhelmingly damning.

Over 65% of respondents chose the option "Everything," expressing their disillusionment with CSK's collective performance across departments. Only 31% blamed the batting alone, while bowling and fielding were each held responsible by just 2% of the fans -- suggesting that supporters believe the team's struggles run deeper than isolated failures.
As CSK took the field at Chepauk against Punjab Kings (PBKS), the context couldn't have been more desperate. The team was staring down the barrel of a fifth straight home defeat - an unwanted record that would mark their worst-ever season at home in IPL history.
The famed Chepauk fortress, which once offered CSK a formidable edge, has crumbled this year. Of the five games played at home, they've lost four - to RCB, DC, KKR, and SRH - and a fifth would all but extinguish the last flicker of playoff hope.
The downfall began with their defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru - their first loss at home against them since 2008 - breaking a legendary winning streak. They then failed to chase down 184 against Delhi Capitals, with KL Rahul and the DC spin attack outclassing them.
Kolkata Knight Riders delivered the biggest humiliation, bowling CSK out for just 103 - their lowest at home - and chasing it down with 59 balls to spare. Then came a fourth blow from Sunrisers Hyderabad, who stifled CSK's batters and comfortably chased 155, leaving Chepauk stunned again.
Individually, no department has consistently delivered. Injuries, underperforming senior players, and the inability to finish games have compounded their woes. Youngsters like Ayush Mhatre and Dewald Brevis have shown sparks, but those alone haven't been enough to lift the team out of a crisis.
Currently, CSK are battling PBKS at Chepauk once more. After PBKS opted to bowl first, Sam Curran's powerful 88-run knock has given them a competitive total. However, the looming dew factor might complicate matters in the second innings, making bowling an even steeper challenge for a side already low on confidence.
Whether or not CSK can salvage something from this disastrous season remains to be seen. For now, the fans have spoken - this is not just a rough patch; it's a total system failure.
