IPL 2025: Former RCB player calls out IPL for New Award, claims Mumbai Indians must Get It!

By MyKhel Staff

Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and India U19 cricketer Shreevats Goswami has pitched a novel idea that could significantly impact the Indian Premier League (IPL) and domestic cricket.

Taking to Facebook, the wicketkeeper-batter suggested that the IPL should introduce a 'Best Scouting Award', with annual incentives either from the league itself or the winning franchise.

Goswami believes such a move would push teams to invest more seriously in scouting, helping unearth raw domestic talent and ultimately strengthening Indian cricket.

"IPL should introduce a 'Best Scouting Award' with a yearly incentive either by the IPL or the franchises who win the scouting award. This will push franchises to take scouting more seriously, unearth more domestic talent, and strengthen Indian cricket. A win-win for everyone!" wrote Goswami on his Facebook.

He also singled out Mumbai Indians (MI) as the frontrunners for the award in recent years, applauding their eye for talent and consistent scouting success.

"For the last couple of years, it has to go to the Mumbai Indians scout. They have been spot on," he added.

Mumbai Indians have earned a reputation for identifying and grooming young Indian players who go on to shine not just in the IPL, but also on the international stage. The likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Tilak Varma, and Nehal Wadhera are products of their robust scouting system.

Even in the IPL 2025 season, they have already unearthed two top gems. Vignesh Puthur, a chinaman spinner from Kerala has garnered praise while the latest in the spotlight is Punjab's pacer Ashwani Kumar, who picked up four wickets on his debut against KKR.

Goswami's suggestion comes at a time when scouting networks have become a crucial part of IPL franchises' strategies. It continues to spread across the country and the scouts have done a tremendous job in identifying talents and provide them the platform to shine.
