IPL 2025 : From Rishabh Pant To Shreyas Iyer, Confirmed Captains For 18th Edition

As anticipation grows for IPL 2025, franchises are making strategic decisions that could shape their performance and future in the cash-rich league. In a significant move, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have officially named Rishabh Pant as their new captain.

Known for his fearless batting and sharp cricketing acumen, Pant brings a wealth of experience as a leader, having previously captained the Delhi Capitals.

Before that Punjab Kings have appointed Shreyas Iyer as their captain for the upcoming season. Iyer, a proven leader with a calm and tactical approach, is expected to guide Punjab Kings with his strategic mindset and consistent performances.

Here's a look at the confirmed captains for the 17th edition.

1) Rishabh Pant : Pant has been named the new captain of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for IPL 2025, replacing KL Rahul. This will be Pant's second IPL captaincy stint, having previously led the Delhi Capitals. LSG is banking on Pant's leadership and dynamic style to guide them to success in the upcoming season.

2) Shreyas Iyer : Iyer has been appointed captain of Punjab Kings (PBKS) for IPL 2025 after being bought for a record INR 26.75 crore at the auction. The IPL 2024 title-winning captain with KKR, Shreyas brings proven leadership and championship experience to PBKS.

3) Ruturaj Gaikwad : Gaikwad will continue as captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for IPL 2025. After CSK missed the playoffs in IPL 2024 under his leadership, Gaikwad aims to showcase his captaincy skills and guide the five-time champions to success this season.

4) Hardik Pandya : Pandya will captain Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2025. Following MI's last-place finish in IPL 2024 under his leadership, Hardik aims to turn the team's fortunes around and restore their winning legacy as five-time champions.

5) Pat Cummins : The Australian will captain Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2025. After falling short in the IPL 2024 final, Cummins aims to lead SRH to their second IPL title in the coming season.

6) Sanju Samson : Samson will continue as Rajasthan Royals' captain in IPL 2025, a role he has held since 2021. Under his leadership, RR reached the playoffs in IPL 2024, showcasing his importance to the team.

7) Shubman Gill : Gill will captain Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025, with the franchise retaining him as skipper. They anticipate improved performances from him both as a batter and a leader.

8) Royal Challengers Bengaluru : RCB have not announced their IPL 2025 captain after releasing Faf du Plessis. Speculations suggest Virat Kohli might return as captain, a move fans would undoubtedly welcome.

9) Kolkata Knight Riders : KKR also have not yet named their captain for IPL 2025. However, they are likely to appoint Venkatesh Iyer as skipper after re-signing him for INR 23.75 crore in the mega auction.

10) Delhi Capitals : DC have not yet announced their captain for IPL 2025. Despite signing KL Rahul in the auction, the franchise is likely to appoint Axar Patel as the new captain, having retained him for Rs. 16.5 crore. But still the possibility of Rahul becoming captain is still not ruled out.
