Punjab Kings might have secured another crucial win in IPL 2025, but the spotlight also fell on Glenn Maxwell for all the wrong reasons. The Australian all-rounder was fined 25% of his match fee and handed a demerit point following a breach of the IPL Code of Conduct during the match against Chennai Super Kings on Tuesday night.
Maxwell, who managed just a solitary run from two deliveries before falling to Ravichandran Ashwin, was charged under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code.

The regulation pertains to the abuse of match-related fixtures and fittings. According to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Maxwell admitted to the Level 1 offence and accepted the sanction issued by the Match Referee.
The rule includes actions that fall outside the realm of normal gameplay-such as aggressively swinging the bat and causing damage to advertising boards, dressing room doors, or other equipment out of frustration. Maxwell's outburst, though not fully detailed, was deemed reckless enough to warrant disciplinary action.
Despite his struggles with the bat, Maxwell continued to contribute with the ball, claiming the key wicket of CSK's Rachin Ravindra. The Kiwi opener had looked dangerous with a fluent 36 off 23, peppered with six boundaries, before Maxwell dismissed him.
The game itself was lit up by Punjab's new batting sensation, Priyansh Arya. The youngster stole the show with a stunning 103 off just 42 balls, slamming seven fours and nine sixes to lift PBKS to a formidable 219/6. His blistering hundred was all the more impressive considering a mini-collapse that saw four Punjab batters dismissed for single-digit scores.
Shashank Singh steadied the innings with a composed 52* off 36 deliveries, while Marco Jansen added firepower in the death overs with a 19-ball 34*.
In response, CSK fell short despite a valiant chase, ending at 201/5. Though Punjab took the points, the incident involving Maxwell served as a reminder that composure remains as crucial as performance in the high-pressure environment of the IPL.
